Learn how event syndication works and how to ensure your event gets picked up by our syndication partners (e.g. Spotify, Songkick, Bandsintown).
Requirements to make sure your event syndicates
About event syndication
To increase reach for your music events, we've established relationships with a network of popular music applications and websites including (but not limited to) Spotify, Songkick, Bandsintown, and Jambase. Our syndication partners fetch event listings programmatically from a dedicated feed we've created for them. The hope is that they refer traffic back to your events in Tixr.
Requirements to make sure your event syndicates
- Event category type: In event Basics, set your event category type to "Music Event" or "Festival." Only these event category types will syndicate.
Pro-tip for festivals: as a data quality best practice, build the event using event category type “Festival” (as opposed to “Music Event”) so that the title displays as the festival name. Otherwise, it will likely surface as a list of artists performing.
Pro-tip for standalone Meet & Greet events: build as a “Social Event” in Tixr so fans aren’t misled into thinking they’re buying an admission ticket. These events will not syndicate to prevent chargebacks and a poor fan experience.
- Artists: Tag your event with at least one (1) artist to signal to our syndication partners to list your event. Only events with a headliner or support act will syndicate, and each artist's name must be an exact match with the corresponding website or application's artist database.
- Featured artists: If applicable, enter the name of the headlining artist(s) that will be performing at your event. If an artist’s name does not appear in the drop-down menu, you can add the artist by exiting the event build and navigating to System > Artists.
- Add artists: If applicable, enter the name of the supporting artist(s) that will be performing at your event.
If you're not ready to announce your lineup or plan to make artist updates after your event is published, our syndication partners fetch Tixr event data on a regular basis. Changes to events, including additions and removals, should still be picked up at a later date.
Typos matter. As a best practice, check Spotify for spelling accuracy and type the artist name into Tixr exactly how it appears, i.e., Pixies, not The Pixies.
On Spotify, regardless of whether an artist is tagged as headliner or support, the event will show up as the artist's name is an exact match.
Frequently asked questions
- How does Tixr syndication work?
- Our syndication partners fetch event listings from a dedicated Tixr feed.
- Where do concerts and festivals show up on Spotify?
- Tixr event listings will show up on the Spotify live events feed and the “On Tour” section of individual artist pages.
- Tixr events may also surface in multi-event editorial emails sent bi-weekly, however, the events featured in these personalized emails are based on geography and listenership.
- Events will display on all device types.
- Tixr event listings will show up on the Spotify live events feed and the “On Tour” section of individual artist pages.
- How often do syndication partners fetch event data?
- Multiple times a day. For example, Spotify checks back four times a day, every six hours at 5 am, 11 am, 5 pm, 11 pm Eastern.
- How long will it take my events to show up?
- Every syndication partner has their own schedule. For example, Spotify guarantees events will show up within 12 hours (which is the same across all their ticketing partners). If a couple of days go by and your event is still missing, you should investigate.
- What are the main reasons my event isn't syndicating?
- This could be due to a variety of reasons, not limited to:
- Artist name mismatch. Must be an exact match ; typos matter. Cross-reference the artist name on Spotify with what’s entered in Tixr and be mindful of typos. If you catch a typo, fix it and republish the event. Spotify fetches new data and updates to events every 6 hours, but allow 48 hours to be safe.
- Multiple artists with the same name. Check to see if there are multiple artists with the same name. Spotify currently prioritizes the artist with the highest monthly listeners.
- Multi-day music festivals with multiple artists. Syndication partners respect multi-day festivals differently. For example, Spotify only shows the first day of a multi-day festival (e.g. a festival running Friday to Sunday shows as a Friday event)
- No artist profile. The artist doesn’t exist in the syndication partner's database.
- Private listings. Only publicly-available events publish to our API.
- Artist control. Some artists require an approval layer before events can publish on their profile pages. This happens most frequently with Bandsintown.
- This could be due to a variety of reasons, not limited to:
- What countries support syndication?
- This is dependent on where the syndication partner operates. For example, our Spotify integration is global, meaning Tixr events should syndicate in any country or region where Spotify is available.
- How can I see sales referred by syndication partners in my Sales by Source dashboard
- Referral sales will show up under the Affiliate source as “Spotify,” "Bandsintown," etc.
- Will purchases take place on the syndication partner's app/site or on Tixr?
- Traffic gets directed back to Tixr to complete purchase.
- How do syndication partners' algorithms work to display and recommend events?
- These vary based on the partner, but it's generally a function of where the fan lives, who they follow, and/or who they listen to.
- How do I make my event the Spotify “Artist Pick” on an artist page?
- Any artist page administrator can manually set a song, album, playlist, or concert as the “Artist Pick” for up to 14 days. Reach out to your artist contact and request that they set your event as the “Artist Pick” via these instructions.
